ReplyDeleteHave the newer generations been lied to? The idea of building up huge college debts seems to be taken way too casually. There are other ways to attend college. They may not be so easy or as carefree; but your heart won't come to a screetching stop when you are, finally, handed that millstone to hang around your neck when you finish.
Like many others, I joined the United States Army to earn my education. Others, still, work their ways through: It's a slower process, but you get a double education along the way--a double education with no crippling debt when you reach your goal. Others accept that they can't afford to go to the "big schools" and take what they can better afford. Community colleges are wonderfully inexpensive in California, and you can live at home! Take advantage of that!
Do you think that loans are given to college students as a matter of a lender's good will and kindness? Nope, they know that they'll have you roped and tied for many years to come. The interest you'll pay makes them very happy to loan you such huge amounts.
Some people are born into a family which can afford the most expensive things in life. Lucky them. Most of us are not. Most of us have to realize that debt is debt; and "buying" your college education should be no different than buying an ice cream truck. Get one you can afford, or the benefits of buying it will all be eaten up in debt.
